Doctor Roman Kovalev from Bryansk State Technical University has come to SRI during the period of July 17 to 18 for UM technical communication. Doctor Roman Kovalev has given introduction to relevant research persons of Research & Testing Department about Universal Mechanism(UM)developed by Professor Dmitry Pogorelov of Bryansk State Technical University. An Agreement of half a year of free use has been signed with SRI. It is reported that UM is one of the most popular Mechanical Dynamic/Dynamic Simulation Analysis Software and has a lot of customers in rail vehicle industry. More than 90% of Russian rail vehicle manufacturers use UM to perform dynamic simulation and analysis. By now, UM has been popularized in Corean, Australian, New Zealand, India and Malaysia etc.. Main characteristics of UM are as follows: 1. high effective easy pre- and post-processing function, support parallel computing and calculation technique. 2. multiple modulars, such as car modular, rolling stock (including locomotive, passenger car and freight car) modular, train modular, fatigue analysis modular and optimization modular, and interface of CAD software, finite element software and control software. 3. UM has good prospect of application because of great functions and adaptability, modelling technology of subsystem, modelling technology of rigid-flexible coupled system, great wheel-rail relation processing function (e.g. real time drawing of wheel-rail contact force curve etc. ). 4. following research and development trend is great. UM is upgrading continuously, after the upgraing of ballast modular of UM4, research of solid-liquid coupling vibration of tank, pressure analysis of open-top coal car, grain hopper car etc. UM5 has already take vehicle –bridge coupling vibration into consideration. 5. Very easy modular modification, high calculation speed Besides, a lot of easy-to-use functions have been built in UM, such as calculator, filter etc. UM is one of the most appropriate softwares for the calcualtion of dynamic performance of three-piece bogie freight car and locomotive.
